Timeline of Union Presbyterian Church

Ø      June 21, 1858 – The first worship was held in the barn of Ebenezer Steele.

Ø      August 7, 1858 – The organization o ff the Union Presbyterian Church

          was completed with fifty five members on the membership roll.

Ø      1959 – The church building was completed.

Ø      September 6, 1870 – Rev. S. B. McBride is ordained and installed as the first full time minister of Union Presbyterian Church.

Ø      1930 – An old school building is purchased to promote youth nights, family nights and community nights.

Ø      1954 - A building fund was established.

Ø      May 5, 1957 – The congregation voted to purchase property for $12,000 for the current location of Union Presbyterian Church.

Ø      October, 1957 – Pledges and gifts of $48,000 are obtained and are to be collected over a three year period to build a new sanctuary.

Ø      May 19, 1959 – Ground breaking ceremonies were held at the current location of Union Presbyterian Church.

Ø      January 31, 1960 – The old sanctuary, built in 1859 is closed after 100 years. The service included communion.

Ø      February 1960 – The first service of worship is held at the current location.

Ø      May 1964 – Construction of the manse began.

Ø      October 1964 – Manse construction complete and Rev. Paul Wierman and family move into the manse.

Ø      May 20, 1990 – the sanctuary is renovated.

            The choir was moved from the balcony to the front of the sanctuary. A new Alan organ is put in service.  The Union Cross is donated to Union Church. In addition a new communion table and pulpit are added.
