UNION PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
The Echo – JUNE 2010
A NOTE FROM PASTOR KEN
June is a time for graduations. Graduations signal the end of an education either in a secondary school or an institution of higher learning. There are no graduations in the Christian life while on the earth in service to our Lord Jesus Christ. It is possible to say that for the Christian death is like a graduation. But, we need to think in terms of constantly learning about Jesus. Jesus said: “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Matt. 11:29) The idea of learning is continual. It does not stop.
Jesus told the parable of the sower. Some seeds did not take hold and produce any results. But, some fell among good soil and were properly cared for and brought results. (Matt. 13:1-23) Once the seed grew, it kept on growing.
Peter, the apostle, tells us to “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.” II Pet. 3:18 It is interesting the neither Peter, nor any biblical writer, tells us to grow only to a certain point and then stop growing. Growth is to be in continual in our lives.
While graduation can be an exciting time for a student, as believers we should not think in terms of graduation for our Christian lives. We have to remember that we are in school with the Master Teacher, our Lord Jesus, for all the days of our life.
There will be some office hours changes in June. Please check the June calendar to see these changes!

What Makes a Dad
God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle's flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so, He called it ... Dad
